Softball Sweeps Doubleheader in Day One of the Phoenix College Tournament

TEMPE, Ariz. - The 2006 Phoenix College Fall Softball Tournament kicked off Friday at ASU's Farrington Stadium, which saw the Sun Devils blank Phoenix College 12-0 and Palomar College 14-0. The Sun Devils will return to the field tomorrow with games at 5 and 8 p.m. at Farrington Stadium. Admission is free.

In game one versus Phoenix College, Megan Elliott took the mound for the Sun Devils, throwing a two-hitter in a 5 1/2 inning game, with the Sun Devil offense behind her powered by home runs from Kirsten Miller and Kaitlin Cochran as they took the win 12-0.

Game two saw the Sun Devils match up against Palomar College, with ASU's Katie Burkhart pitching six perfect innings and home runs from CJ Carlson and Heidi Knabe. Mindy Cowles came in with three hits, two for doubles and Katie Crabb added two doubles as well in ASU's 14-0 win.
