Burduli Marches on at ITA NW Regional

Berkeley, Calif. - Ekaterina Burduli, for the second straight year advanced to the round of 16 at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Northwest Regional at the Hellman Tennis Center.
Burduli, the seventh-seed, posted her tenth win of the season against Anna Powasko of Oregon, 7-6, 6-4. Burduli has a team leading record of 10-2. She has now captured 50 collegiate career wins. Burduli remains the only Cougar left in the main draw Sunday. She battles the ninth-seed Christina Visico of California.
Freshman Ashley Spicer reached the third round of play before falling to the No. 1 seed Theresa Logar of Stanford, 6-1, 6-0. Teammate Aleksandra Stefanova fell in straight sets to second-seeded Suzi Fodor of California, 6-1, 6-1. Senior Marjolein van de Ven, making a second straight trip to the round of 32, was overmatched by No. 13 Lindsey Burdette of Stanford, 6-0, 6-3.
The third round of doubles found the Cougars again playing against a top-seeded opponent. The duo of Suzi Babos and Suzi Fodor captured a win over Burduli and van de Ven, 8-6. The WSU tandem came within one service break point of upsetting the No. 1 seed.
The ITA NW Regional continues Sunday and concludes Monday at the Hellman Tennis Center.
