Nguyen Falls In ITA Singles, Doubles Title Matches

STANFORD, Calif.- Sophomore Jessica Nguyen advanced to the championship match of the singles and doubles draws at the ITA Northwest Regional Championships on Monday, only to fall short in both competitions.
Nguyen was edged by California's Nina Henkel in the singles final by a 7-5, 6-4 score. She partnered with junior Celia Durkin to reach the doubles title match, but the Cardinal duo dropped an 8-2 decision to California's Zsuzsanna Fodor and Susie Babos.
Monday's performance capped an impressive weekend for Nguyen, seeded No. 8 overall in the singles bracket. She upset No. 2 seed Fodor of California 6-4, 6-2 in the quarterfinals before outlasting Fresno State's Melanie Gloria 6-2, 1-6, 6-2 in the semifinals.
Senior Theresa Logar, the No. 1 singles seed, was knocked off by Henkel 6-4, 2-6, 7-5 in her semifinal match.
Stanford is back in action Nov. 2-5. The squad splits up to participate at the Arizona State Invitational and ITA National Indoor Championships.
