Oct. 23, 2006

LOS ANGELES - UCLA tennis players Chris Surapol and Yasmin Schnack both lost in the finals Monday in their respective Wilson/ITA Region Championships.

Surapol, the No. 2 seed at the ITA West Regionals (South) hosted by Pepperdine, lost to Pepperdine's Andre Begemann, 6-3, 7-6(4) in the championship match. Surapol was looking to sweep titles at the regionals, as he and Benjamin Kohlloeffel captured the doubles title on Sunday with an 8-4 victory over teammates Mathieu Dehaine and Jeremy Drean. With that win, Surapol and Kohlloeffel earned a wildcard into the ITA National Intercollegiate Indoor Championships in November.

At the women's ITA West Regionals in San Diego, Schnack lost to USC's Sarah Fansler, 6-1, 6-4 in the final. By making the final, both players earn a wildcard into the ITA National Intercollegiate Indoor Championships.
