UW Golfers In Fifth Place At Big Ten/Pac-10 Challenge

BANDON, Ore. - Washington men's golf completed the first two rounds of the Big Ten/Pac-10 Challenge held at the Pacific Dunes Course, Monday, finishing the day in fifth place, led by senior Alex Prugh who is tied for third in the individual race.

The Huskies shot 16-over 300 in the first round and 18-over 302 in the second round to put them eight strokes behind leader UCLA (284-310-594) heading into Tuesday's final round. Wisconsin (300-296-596) sits in second place, followed by Stanford (294-306-600) and USC (295-305-600) in a tie for third.

Prugh led the Husky charge, carding a five-over 147 through 36 holes including a two-over 73 in the morning round and a three-over 74 in the afternoon round. Prugh is just five strokes behind leader Jamie Lovemark from USC who shot an even par 142. Prugh is tied with Erik Flores of UCLA, Jonathan Bowers of Northwestern and Daniel Im of UCLA.

UW freshman Nick Taylor also finished the first two rounds among the top individuals, tying for seventh with Oregon's Nick Ma. Both are a shot back from the log jam of players tied for third. Taylor shot identical rounds of three-over 74 to finish six-over 148.

The other UW individuals were Zach Bixler who was tied for 20th (77-75-152), Joel Dahmen who tied for 36th (76-80-156) and Erik Olson who tied for 40th (78-79-157).

In the conference challenge portion of the tournament, the Pac-10 held a slim 16-stroke lead over the Big Ten.

The tournament, hosted by the University of Oregon, concludes with the final 18 holes, Tuesday, beginning at 8:30 a.m.
