Oct. 24, 2006
USC sophomore Amanda Weir was one of six swimmers to earn National Collegiate Swimmer-of-the-Week honors for the period of Oct. 8-22, CollegeSwimming.com announced.
Weir, who was selected along with her university contemporaries by a panel of collegiate coaches, recorded three NCAA automatic qualifying times in her competitive debut with the Trojans on Oct. 14. She posted wins in the 50y (22.60), 100y (48.76) and 200y free (1:46.74) against Oregon State and Cal State Northridge, breezing to victories in each.
She followed it up a week later at the TYR Pacific Invitational with wins in the 50y, 100y, 200y and 500y free and a second in the 1650y free. Her times of 4:47.60 in the 500y free and 16:41.95 in the mile were both NCAA consideration times.
Weir, from Lawrenceville, N.J., was an All-America for Georgia in 2005. She did not compete collegiately in 2006, though she did compete nationally and internationally.
