Men's Golf Finishes Eighth At Big Ten/Pac-10 Challenge

BANDON, ORE. -- Washington men's golf finished eighth at the Big Ten/Pac-10 Challenge that wrapped up at the Pacific Dunes Course in Bandon, Ore., Tuesday. The Huskies were led by top finisher, senior Alex Prugh who tied for 11th, shooting 12-over 225 over 54 holes.

Washington finished the tournament 58-over 910 overall, after carding a 24-over 308 in the final round. The Huskies finished one stroke behind seventh-place Minnesota (57-over 909) and three strokes behind sixth-place Michigan State (55-over 907). UCLA claimed the team victory (33-over 885) followed by USC (38-over 890) and Wisconsin (42-over 894).

Prugh started the day tied for third in the individual race but dropped to 11th after shooting seven-over 78 in the final round. He had carded rounds of two-over 73 and three-over 74 in the previous two rounds. He ended up 16 strokes behind medalist Jamie Lovemark from USC (four-under 209). Lovemark was the only player to finish the tournament under par, the next finisher was four-over 217, Daniel Im from UCLA.

UW junior Zach Bixler moved up in the standings with the best Husky round of the day, three-over 74. Bixler finished 13-over 226 overall, one stroke behind teammate Prugh. Freshman Nick Taylor ended the tournament 16-over 229 (74-74-81), senior Erik Olson finished 19-over 232 (78-79-75) and freshman Joel Dahmen was 24-over 237 (76-80-81).

In the conference challenge portion of the tournament, the Pac-10 defeated the Big Ten by 29 strokes, 4,488-4,517. The Pac-10 now leads the series 2-1, with both wins coming at the Bandon courses.

The Huskies have two more tournaments on tap this fall, the Callaway Collegiate Match Play in Forth Worth, Texas (Oct. 29-31) and the Corde Valle Classic hosted by UCLA (Nov. 6-7).
