CAL VISITS STANFORD FOR PAC-10 CHAMPIONSHIPS: The California cross country teams compete at the Pac-10 Championships Saturday, Oct. 28, at the Stanford Golf Course. The festivities begin with the women's 6K event at 10 a.m., followed by the men's 8K at 11 a.m.

BEARS LINEUP: Cal's lineup for the women's 6K features Bridget Duffy, Rebecca Yau, Elizabeth Mayeda, Alison Greggor, Rebecca Palm, Mackenzie Pierce, Pippa Macdonald and Gabriela Rios-Sotelo. The Bears' 8K entries include Yosef Ghebray, Mark Matusak, Jake Schmitt, Michael Coe, Chris Chavez, Alex and Andy McClary, Steve Sodaro and Micah Parker or Eric Lee.

2005 PAC-10 CHAMPIONSHIPS IN REVIEW: The Cal men finished a program-best of third place with 107 points Oct. 29 at the 2005 Pac-10 Championships at Dell Urich Golf Course in Tucson, Ariz. The Golden Bear women took seventh with 188 points, which was their highest finish since a sixth-place showing in 1995. Stanford won the men's and women's crowns with 46 and 34 points, respectively. The Cal men had four runners place in the top 20, led by senior Giliat Ghebray in eighth place (23:57), which was the best Pac-10 result for a Golden Bear male since Bolota Asmerom took seventh in 1999. Freshman Mark Matusak grabbed 17th in 24:56, senior Kevin Davis was 18th (24:58), and freshman Yosef Ghebray crossed the finish line in 20th (25:01). Sophomore Rebecca Yau led the Cal women in 27th place (22:04), and redshirt junior Bridget Duffy followed in 34th (22:27).

CHILE PEPPER FESTIVAL REWIND: The Cal men placed sixth at the nationally-regarded Chile Pepper Festival Oct. 14 at the Agri Park Cross Country Course in Fayetteville, Ark., while the Golden Bears women's squad finished in 14th. Junior David Torrence paced the Cal men for the second consecutive competition with a 23rd-place showing in 29:46.1. Sophomore Mark Matusak was Cal's second-fastest runner, placing 35th in 30:12.6, and sophomore Yosef Ghebray crossed the finish line next for the Bears in 42nd (30:25.7). Junior Rebecca Yau led Cal for the third straight time this season, finishing in 38th place on the 6K course in 21:28.2. Senior Bridget Duffy finished in 96th place (22:25.2) as the Bears' next fastest competitor.

DUFFY, YAU PACE BEARS: After initially walking onto the team prior to the 2004 season, Rebecca Yau has led Cal in three of four meets this season and has finished in the top 15 three times. Yau, a product of Orinda, topped the Bears at the Aggie Open (second), the Stanford Invite (13th) and at the Chile Pepper Festival (38th). Bridget Duffy (Oakland) took second (17:43.00) at the USF Invitational in the season opener to lead Cal.

TORRENCE, LEE, SODARO TOP BEARS: Three different runners have led the Cal men's team this season. In the Bears' last two outings, David Torrence (Reseda) was the team's fastest runner at Stanford (seventh) and the Chile Pepper Festival (23rd). Redshirt sophomore Eric Lee (San Anselmo) led the team at the USF Invite (fifth), and freshman Steve Sodaro (Tiburon) held top honors for the Bears at the Aggie Open (11th).
