USC Men's Basketball Team To Hold Cardinal and Gold Intrasquad Game Saturday At Galen Center
Oct. 25, 2006
The USC men's basketball team will play the Cardinal and Gold intrasquad game on Saturday (Oct. 28) at 1 p.m. at Galen Center.
The event will mark the first time fans will get a chance to see the 2006-07 team in a game situation and view the spectacular new arena. The Trojans will have one more exhibition game on Nov. 11 vs. Cal Poly Pomona at 1 p.m. at Galen Center before opening the regular season at home vs. two-time defending NIT Champion South Carolina on Nov. 16 in a 7:30 p.m. game.
USC added a strong freshman class of seven players to a team that surprised last year with a 17-13 record, which included a nine-game winning streak. As optimistic as the Trojans are now, things could have been even better if not for the tragic shooting death of Pac-10 All-Freshman team honorable mention point guard Ryan Francis and the ineligibility of junior All-Pac-10 guard Gabe Pruitt for the first semester due to academic issues.
The Trojans are retuning their top three scorers from a season ago in All-Pac-10 junior Nick Young (17.3 ppg), Pruitt (16.9 ppg) and senior Lodrick Stewart (12.3 ppg). Young and Pruitt are the top two returning scorers in the conference and Stewart is the top returning career scorer in the Pac-10.
USC made great strides last year in Tim Floyd's first season as the Trojan head coach and things seem to be in place to take the program to the next level. Come out to Galen Center on Saturday and watch the Trojans get ready for the 2006-07 campaign.
