No. 5 USC Drops 3-1 Decision At No. 6 Washington

LOS ANGELES -- Stevie Mussie had 18 kills and 10 digs Thursday as the No. 6 Washington Huskies defeated the No. 5 USC Women of Troy, 3-1 (30-18, 30-25, 27-30, 30-20), in a Pac-10 Conference match in Seattle. The host Huskies jumped out early, hitting .415 in game one to take control of the match.
Washington improves to 18-3 on the season and moves into third place in the Pac-10 with an 8-2 mark while USC falls to 18-3 overall and 7-3 in conference.
Diane Copenhagen (Saratoga/St. Francis HS) led the Women of Troy with 20 kills while Jessica Gysin had 13 kills and 16 digs. The Huskies frustrated All-America candidate Asia Kaczor, who had 12 kills with 13 errors for a -.024 evening.
Senior All-America libero Debora Seilhamer had 28 digs for the Women of Troy and now has 1,818 digs in her career.
Washington's Jessica Swarbrick had 16 kills in the match for a .387 hitting performance, adding five block assists.
In a battle between two of the nation's top setters, Washington's Courtney Thompson had 61 assists and 15 digs while USC freshman Taylor Carico had 53 assists and five kills.
USC travels to Washington State tomorrow for a 7 p.m. match.
