No. 1 Cal Routs San Jose State, 204-84

BERKELEY - Top-ranked California opened its 2006-07 home schedule with a 204-84 rout of San Jose State on Friday afternoon at Spieker Aquatics Complex. The Golden Bears ran their dual-meet record to 3-0, while the Spartans fell to 1-6.

Cal freshmen won six of 16 events. Two first-year Bears won two events each, with Amanda Larson winning the 50-yard freestyle (24.42) and 100 butterfly (59.42) and Samantha Young winning the one- (261.62) and three-meter (274.13) springboards.

The Bears open Pac-10 competition when they host Washington State at 11 a.m. on Saturday.
