Bohannon Leads Bruin Women at Pac-10 Cross Country Championships

Oct. 28, 2006

Sophomore Allie Bohannon earned the first All-Conference honor of her career on Saturday morning after leading the Bruin women to a fifth-place team finish at the Pac-10 Cross Country Championships in Palo Alto, CA. Bohannon finished eighth overall as UCLA's No. 1 runner in a time of 20:47.

Bohannon had been UCLA's No. 2 finisher in every race this season, but broke through this weekend with an impressive finish.

'Obviously, the bright spot of the day for this team was Allie,' said Distance Coach Eric Peterson. 'She led the team for the first time in her career and ran over a 25-second PR over the 6k distance. It was a huge performance from a young runner and it is something that we are all really excited to see. Allie's been through a lot already in her young career and to see her succeed today was fantastic. She's tough and competitve and this level of success is very new to her, but she is handling it as well as anyone can. I'm so thrilled for her.

'We were shooting for a top-3 finish, but although that didn't happen, our fifth-year seniors and Olga (Aulet-Leon) did well to keep our team in the race.

'We still need to be better then where we are, and we'll work hard the next few weeks to finish the season off with the best race of the year.

'This was our best team race of the seaon and that's pleasing, but we still see ourselves matching up well with Oregon and Washington and we are going to do the best job to close the gap and fiish ahead of their teams at Regionals.'
