The Gold Team Scores a 64-60 Comeback Win In The Cardinal & Gold Scrimmage

The USC men's basketball team played the Cardinal and Gold scrimmage game today (Oct. 28) at the Galen Center, with the Gold team making a spirited rally for a 64-60 victory.
Senior Abdoulaye N'diaye grabbed 14 rebounds and scored 17 points, 12 in the second half, to lead the Gold team. Freshman Ryan Wetherell scored all nine of his points in the second half which saw the Gold team outscore the Cardinal team 41-30.
The Cardinal squad led 53-41 with 9:07 to go in the game, but the Gold team went on a 15-1 run. N'diaye scored six points in the run and senior Lodrick Stewart scored two points and made three steals in that stretch. Wetherell's steal and layup with 2:31 to go in the game tied it at 54, then Stewart stole a pass and fed N'diaye for a dunk to give the Gold team a 56-54 lead.
Sophomore Keith Wilkinson's put-back after a missed three-pointer by freshman Daniel Hackett tied the game at 56-56 with 1:47 to go. The Gold's Wetherell responded with a three-pointer with 1:33 to go to break the tie. Steward, who scored 16 points, then put the game away with a three-pointer at the 1:01 mark to make it a 62-56 game.
All-Pac-10 swingman Nick Young led all Trojans with 21 points for the Cardinal squad.
Following the official scrimmage, the two teams played 10 more minutes to work on the zone defense and the Cardinal responded with a 15-12 win in the extra period. Freshman Taj Gibson led the Cardinal team in the extra frame with six points and two rebounds. Freshman Kevin Galloway led the Gold team with five points and three rebounds.
The Trojans' next exhibition game will be vs. Cal Poly Pomona on Nov. 11 at 1 p.m. in the Galen Center.
