Men's Golf Completes Day One Of Collegiate Match Play Championship

FORT WORTH, Texas- Washington men's golf completed the first day of action at the Callaway Golf Collegiate Match Play Championship at the Colonial Country Club, Sunday, regrouping after a tiebreak loss in the first round to Clemson (2-2-1) to defeat N.C. State (4-1) in the consolation second round.
The Huskies, seeded 12th, will face eighth-seed UNLV in the third round of the consolation bracket, Monday.
Versus Clemson, the Huskies got wins from Alex Prugh (one-up over Kyle Stanley) and Erik Olson (2 and 1 versus Ben Martin), but the match came down to a tiebreaker which gave Clemson the victory - winning 29 total holes to the Huskies' 20.
In the second round of the consolation bracket, the Huskies won four of the five matchups to down N.C. State - getting victories from Prugh, Zach Bixler, Nick Taylor and Olson. Prugh defeated Jerry Richardson, 5 and 4, Bixler edged Andrew Byrd 2 and 1, Taylor defeated Hertzog Landman, 7 and 6, and Olson defeated Adam Hogue, 5 and 3.
UNLV fell in the first round to No. 9 Duke, 3-1-1, but came back to defeat Arizona, 3-2-0, in the second round of the consolation bracket.
