WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - Quarterback Alex Brink of Washington State, safety Josh Barrett of Arizona State and punt returner Sammie Stroughter of Oregon State have been named U.S. Bank Pac-10 Football Players of the Week.

Brink, a junior from Eugene, Ore., directed the Washington State offense in the Cougars' 37-15 road win at UCLA. Brink completed 28-of-38 passes (.737) for a season-high 405 yards and three touchdowns of 6, 17 and 17 yards. The 405 yards passing is the second-highest total in the Pac-10 this year and Brinks' 409 yards total offense is the top performance in the league this year. Washington State posted 515 yards total offense against the Bruins.

Barrett, a junior from Reno, Nev., keyed Arizona State's defensive effort in the Sun Devils' 26-23 overtime win at Washington. Barrett had a game-high nine tackles, five solo, and intercepted two passes, returning them 40 yards. The Arizona State defense limited Washington to 274 yards total offense (126 rushing, 148 passing).

Stroughter, a junior from Sacramento, Calif., provided one of many big plays for Oregon State in the Beavers' 33-31 upset win against No. 3-ranked USC. Stroughter returned a punt 70 yards for a touchdown, marking the third time this year he has returned a punt for a score. He tied the Pac-10 single-season record for most punt returns in a season (3). It is the second player of the week honor for Stroughter this season as he was named offensive player of the week after OSU defeated Washington on Oct. 14.

Others nominated for offensive player of the week honors were wide receivers Stroughter and Steve Smith of USC and tailback Keegan Herring of Arizona State. Also nominated on defense were linebacker Dallas Sartz of USC and safety Eric Frampton of Washington State. Michael Bumpus of Washington State and Justin Medlock of UCLA were nominated for special teams play.
