Huskies Fall To UNLV At Collegiate Match Play Championship

FORT WORTH, TEXAS -- The Washington men's golf team was eliminated from the third round of the consolation bracket at the Callaway Golf Collegiate Match Play Championship, Monday, falling to UNLV, 3-2.
The 12th-seeded Huskies got wins from Erik Olson and Chris Killmer, but it wasn't enough to surpass the eighth-seeded Rebels. Olson defeated C.J. Gatto, 6 and 5, while Killmer bested Jarred Texter, 2 and 1. Alex Prugh fell to Matt Kinsinger, 6 and 5, while Zach Bixler suffered a 3 and 1 loss to Blake Trimble and Nick Taylor was downed by Ryan Keeney, 3 and 2.
Olson ended up undefeated at the Collegiate Match Play Championship, also picking up wins in the Huskies' matchups versus Clemson and N.C. State, Sunday. UW lost in a tiebreaker to Clemson in the first round before defeating N.C. State to stay alive in the consolation bracket.
Moving on in the winners bracket were fourth-seed Oklahoma State and 11th-seed Lamar who will play for the championship, Tuesday. UNLV will face 10th-seed Arizona State in the consolation final.
The Huskies have one more tournament on its fall schedule, the Corde Valle Classic hosted by UCLA, Nov. 6-7.
