The USC women's golf team, ranked 13th in the most recent Golfworld.com Top 25, is tied for third place, thanks in part to junior Paola Moreno's 69, after the second round of the Las Vegas Collegiate Showdown at the Anthem C.C. in Henderson, Nev., on Tuesday (Oct. 31).
The Women of Troy, who are wrapping up their fall competition slate, finished the second day of action with a combined 292 (+4), one shot better than Monday's team effort and giving the squad a combined 585 (+9) for the tournament.
Oklahoma State, which was tied with Arizona State with a 292 after the first day, one shot better than USC and Pepperdine, had a strong day and finished in first with a two-day 572 (-4). The Sun Devils were second (581) after a 289 and the Waves and Trojans were tied for the second straight day at 585.
Moreno began the day tied for 45th but moved up into a tie for ninth after her 3-under performance gave her a 145 (+1). She is tied with junior teammate Dewi-Claire Schreefel. A day after turning in a season-low 72, Schreefel remained solid with a 1-over 73. Moreno and Schreefel are both six shots off the lead.
