Q & A With Andrea Plouffe
Oct. 31, 2006
Junior center Andrea Plouffe was one of the major components to the Huskies' success last season. Plouffe didn't see much time on the floor in her freshman year after recovering from knee surgery, but as a sophomore emerged as the team's second leading scorer and a huge inside presence. The Alberta, Canada native sat down with GoHuskies.com correspondent Andre Bayard at the team's media day last week to talk about the upcoming season.
GoHuskies.com: So what are your thoughts on the upcoming season?
Andrea Plouffe: 'We are a very talented team this year and we can do some great things for the program. I am anticipating a good season.'
GH: What did you do during the offseason compared to what you did in years prior?
AP: 'It was more of the same. Since we went to Italy we had extra practices together. It wasn't just on your own training, we got to work together. I think that we are ahead of a lot of teams in training so far this year.'
GH: What kind of experience was Italy?
AP: 'It was fun, it opened my eyes to a lot of things. I think that I might try to play overseas when I am finished here.'
GH: Is that your first time in Europe?
AP: 'Yeah. It was my first time leaving the states besides Canada.'
GH: How was the competition like overseas?
AP: 'It got better as we went on. We initially started playing lower division teams, but at the end we started playing like grown women. The competition got better at the end.'
GH: You saw limited time during your freshman year. Your sophomore year you played in every game and now this year you are one of the leaders of this team. Do you see yourself improving?
AP: 'I hope so, that's the plan. I continue to work harder on the things that I know I need to improve on. I want to do more for the team.'
GH: Talk about how the season ended just short of the Sweet-16 last season.
AP: 'It was fun. I have never experienced anything like that. Winning against Minnesota was huge for us. I really enjoyed that feeling and I want to try and do that again this year.'
GH: You stuck with powerhouse LSU and were even leading them at halftime, what does that say about this team?
AP: 'We were a little surprised that we were in stride with LSU because they were such a big team in a big game. We believed in ourselves and we know that we can do big things. Coming into this year we see what we can accomplish and I think that's going to help us.'
GH: Did you watch a lot of film from last season?
AP: 'We focus more on ourselves individually, so we watch a lot of film focusing on ourselves. The focus is not on the other teams, it's more on us and how we can improve.'
GH: How is the team chemistry of this team?
AP: 'It's amazing. Everyone gets along and this is a great team. We all get along both on and off the court and it is truly a great experience to be on this team.'
GH: Talk to me about some of the new faces on this year's team?
AP: 'I think that some of them are really going to step up this year and get an opportunity to step up because of some of the injuries on the team.'
GH: Is there a game on the schedule that you can't wait to play?
AP: 'Any team that got a win against us last year, we are coming for them.'
GH: Well thank you, and I hope you and the team have a great season.
