Cougars Hosts Arizona State, Arizona In Final Regular Season Matches

WATCH THE COUGARS ON FSN: A tape delay of the WSU-USC match will be aired Thursday, Nov. 2 on FSN Northwest at noon...the game will then be re-aired Thursday, Nov. 5 at noon.
THIS WEEK: The Cougars (8-6-4, 3-2-2) conclude regular season play as they host Arizona State and Arizona at Lower Soccer Field...Washington State faces the Sun Devils (7-8-2, 2-5-0) Friday, Nov. 3 at 2 p.m., and take on the Wildcats (8-8-2, 1-4-2) Sunday, Nov. 29 at 11 a.m.
HEAD COACH Matt Potter SAYS: 'Both Arizona teams are capable of beating anyone on their day and the squads of both teams are full of athleticism and great players. Both Ray [Leone] and Dan [Tobias] have programs that are established amongst the nation's top tier and I'm sure both are looking to the trip to the Washington schools as an opportunity to establish themselves further up the conference standings. We will prepare accordingly and with the added emotion of senior weekend, it makes for an exciting weekend of soccer.'
LAST TIME OUT: Washington State traveled to Los Angeles in its final road trip of 2006 as the Cougars faced No. 20 USC and No. 3 UCLA...WSU battled the Trojans to a double-overtime scoreless tie Oct. 25...junior keeper Brynn Bemis recorded her sixth solo shutout of the season, tying her at sixth on WSU's single-season shutouts list...Washington State suffered its second loss in Pac-10 play Oct. 27 as No. 3 UCLA posted a 2-0 win...Bemis recorded nine saves in the match, tying her career-high...two goals scored by UCLA mark just the second and third goals the Cougars have given up in Pac-10 play bringing WSU's conference goals against average to 0.40.
POTTER SAYS: 'To earn a tie at USC in a very challenging environment, and with the USC home record and the distraction of TV, it is a great testament to the players and their efforts. In UCLA, we played one of the nation's best and although disappointed with the result, we competed and showed a lot of character. We will need all our best efforts heading into the last weekend of the regular season.'
SCOUTING THE SUN DEVILS: The Cougars take on Arizona State (7-8-2, 2-5-0) Friday, Nov. 3 at 2 p.m....WSU is 3-8-0 overall against the Sun Devils...WSU dropped a 4-2 decision in the last meeting (2005)...ASU comes off a 4-2 win over Arizona Oct. 28...Sun Devils return 12 letterwinners and five starters from a 2005 squad that had a 9-8-3 overall record, and finished tied for fifth in the Pac-10...Ray Leone is in his sixth season as head coach and has a 59-45-13 record with the program...Leone has 191-103-26 overall record as head coach ...ASU top players include senior Kim Bingham and junior Courtney Crane...Bingham has a 7-8-2 record in 2006 and has grabbed 80 saves which ranks her second in the Pac-10...Crane leads the Sun Devils with five goals, one game-winner, and three assists.
SCOUTING THE WILDCATS: Washington State faces Arizona (8-8-8-2, 1-4-2) Sunday, Nov. 5 at 11 a.m. in the final regular season match of the 2006 season at Lower Soccer Field...Cougars boast a 7-3-1 overall record against the Wildcats and recorded a 2-1 double-overtime win against then No. 19 ranked Arizona last season...Wildcats come off a 4-0 loss at Arizona State Oct. 28 ...2006 marks Arizona's fourth campaign under head coach Dan Tobias who has a 40-33-7 record with the program and a 84-78-13 overall head coaching record...Wildcats return 11 letterwinners and four starters from a 2005 squad that had an overall record of 11-8-3 and made a third round appearance in the 2005 NCAA Tournament...Arizona is led by sophomores Gianna DeSaverio and Chelsea McIntyre...DeSaverio leads the Wildcats with six goals, including three game-winners, and four assists in 2006...McIntyre currently leads the Pac-10 with 99 saves and a 5.50 saves per game average...McIntyre has an 8-8-2 record with six solo shutouts.
