Rachel Buehler Earns National Team of the Week Honors
Nov. 1, 2006
Stanford, Calif. - Stanford defender Rachel Buehler received two more weekly honors today after being named the Pac-10 Player of the Week for the second time in her career yesterday. Soccer Buzz named Buehler among the top 18 players in the nation this week, while Soccer America listed her among the top 11. The honors mark the second time this season that Buehler has received at least one national weekly honor.
On Friday night, Buehler powered the Stanford back line that posted a 2-0 shutout of Oregon State. On Sunday, Buehler helped the Cardinal blank formerly unbeaten Oregon, and scored the game-winner in the 64th minute to lift the Cardinal to victory. Buehler has been the anchor of the Stanford defense this season, which has posted 13 shutouts and held 15 opponents to two shots on goal or less. The goal was Buehler's first of the season.
Stanford heads to Cal this weekend to wrap-up the regular-season. Kickoff between the Cardinal and the Golden Bears is scheduled for 1 p.m. Sunday at Edwards Stadium/Goldman Field in Berkeley.
