Nov. 1, 2006
TEMPE, Ariz. - Alissa Oldenkamp, a junior midfielder for the Arizona State University soccer team, was named to a pair of national teams of the week for her play in the Sun Devils' 4-0 defeat of rival Arizona October 28 in Tempe.
Oldenkamp was selected to the National Elite Team of the Week by both Soccer America and Soccer Buzz. The teams, selected each week by the editorial staff of the publications, select one player of the week and several other deserving players for their elite teams based upon the previous week's matches [Soccer America team | Soccer Buzz team].
A local product of Dobson High School in Chandler, Oldenkamp entered the UA match with one career collegiate goal before scoring twice against the Wildcats as both strikes came from distance to help the Sun Devils snap a two-match slide on the season and remain unbeaten against their southern foes, now 11-0-1.
With the Sun Devils ahead 1-0, Oldenkamp carried the ball down the right flank and chipped a pass to the center of the penalty area where it was redirected by Courtney Crane to a wide open Lara Kezer, who scored on a shot from 10 yards out. In the second half, after the ball bounced around a bit, an attempt to clear the Wildcat box was sent short to a waiting Oldenkamp who fired from 25 yards out into an empty net. The final goal of the match came Dante Perea chipped a pass to Oldenkamp at the top of the box before Oldenkamp sent another solid shot into the net.
The Sun Devils will play their final regular season matches of the weekend, opening Friday with a 2 p.m. contest in Pullman, Wash., against Washington State and ending the trip with a noon Sunday meeting at Washington.
