USC's Janessa Currier Named to SoccerBuzz Elite Team of the Week

Nov. 1, 2006

USC defender Janessa Currier got it done on both ends of the field in an important weekend for USC, and the sophomore has been recognized for her efforts by being named to the SoccerBuzz Elite Team of the Week.

As an anchor on the back line, Currier helped shut down Washington State through USC's sixth overtime game of the year as the Trojan defense allowed just eight WSU shots during the match to get another shutout for the Women of Troy. And in a must-win situation for USC against Washington, Currier came up with her second career goal with a header that made it 2-0 in the first half. From there, Currier continued her defensive work to preserve the win and register a new program record for USC with its 13th shutout of the year. Currier and the USC defense allowed only two shots from the Huskies in the win.

This is Currier's first national weekly honor. Fellow sophomore defender Meagan Holmes has been named to the SoccerBuzz Elite Team of the Week twice this season.
