Huskies Sweep Oregon State

CORVALLIS, Ore.-- Junior Stevie Mussie led the fourth-ranked University of Washington volleyball team with 15 kills Thursday night as the Huskies swept Oregon State, 3-0. The win lifts Washington to 20-3 overall and 10-2 in the Pac-10, while the Beavers dip to 3-17 overall and 0-11 in conference play. Game scores were 30-20, 30-23, 30-26.

Joining Mussie with double-figure kills were Alesha Deesing (11), Christal Morrison (10) and Janine Sandell (10), while Jessica Swarbrick chipped in nine kills.

Senior All-American Courtney Thompson paced Washington to a .323 hitting percentage with 50 assists, while adding eight digs on defense.

Freshman libero Tamari Miyashiro led Washington's defensive stance with 22 digs, while Mussie collected 13 digs.

The Huskies held statistical advantages over the Beavers in nearly every statistical category, including hitting percentage (.323-.189), kills (55-44) and digs (60-54). Oregon State held slight advantages in aces (6-5) and blocks (9-8.5).

Washington continues action Friday when it takes on 24th-ranked Oregon at 8 p.m.
