Bears Rebound in ITA Indoor Championships

COLUMBUS, OHIO - Day two of the ITA Indoor Championships saw much better results for the California women's tennis team. The Golden Bears won three of their four matches on Friday at the Racquet Club of Columbus, in Columbus, Ohio. Senior Zsuzsanna Fodor and junior Susie Babos picked up two wins on the day.
Babos rebounded after her opening-round loss yesterday. The winner of the singles draw at the All-American Championships defeated Annette Aksdal of Denver, 4-6, 7-5, 6-2, in her first consolation match.
Fodor won in two sets in her consolation match, as she knocked off Anna Lubinsky of Texas, 6-1, 7-5.
The doubles team of Babos and Fodor came back strong following its opening-day loss. The duo beat Ohio State's Julie Blackmore and Caitlin O'Keefe, 8-4.
Freshman Nina Henkel was the only Bear to suffer defeat in day two. The winner of the ITA Northwest Regional singles draw ended her tournament trip early, as Anastasia Zhukova of Tennessee-Chattanooga beat Henkel, 7-6 (4), 2-6, 6-3.
Cal continues play in the consolation brackets tomorrow and through Sunday. Babos and Fodor will square off against Pac-10 opponents in their next singles matches. Babos will face Sarah Fansler of USC, while Fodor takes on Riza Zalameda of UCLA.
