Nov. 3, 2006
Columbus, Ohio - UCLA's Benjamin Kohlloeffel won two singles matches Friday to advance to the semifinals of the 2006 ITA National Intercollegiate Indoor Championships at the Racquet Club of Columbus.
Kohlloeffel, the top-seed and defending champion at the Indoors, opened up the day with a 6-2, 6-4 victory over Ohio State's Justin Kronauge in the round of 16. He followed that up with a 6-1, 6-3 decision against Old Dominion's Harel Srugo in the quarterfinals. Awaiting Kohlloeffel in Saturday's semifinals is unseeded Todd Paul of Wake Forest.
Kohlloeffel, who is the only seeded player left in the draw, is looking to become the first back-to-back champion at the Indoors since Sargis Sargsian of Arizona State won it back in 1994 and '95.
In women's consolation singles action, UCLA's Riza Zalameda and Yasmin Schnack each won matches Friday. Zalameda was a 6-1, 6-3 winner over Notre Dame's Colleen Rielley, while Schnack downed Notre Dame's Cismina Ciobanu by the same score.
