Nguyen Advances At ITA National Indoor Championships

STANFORD, Calif.- Sophomore Jessica Nguyen continued her impressive fall season with a first-round victory on Thursday afternoon at the ITA National Indoor Championships in Columbus, Ohio.

No. 52 Nguyen downed USC's Sarah Fansler 7-6, 6-2 to begin her tournament run.

Stanford's two other singles participants, junior Celia Durkin and senior Theresa Logar, were upset in their first-round matches. No. 20 Durkin dropped a hard-fought 6-3, 5-7, 6-3 decision to No. 10 Megan Moulton-Levy of William & Mary while No. 3 Logar was stunned 6-4, 6-4 by Georgia's Kirsten Flower.

In doubles play, Stanford's team of Nguyen and Durkin posted an 8-3 win over Duke's No. 25 Daniela Bercek and Elizabeth Plotkin.Competition resumes Friday morning.
