No. 9 Cal Falls to Stanford, 2-1, in OT

STANFORD, Calif. - Ninth-ranked California ended the regular season with a 2-1 overtime loss to rival Stanford on Friday night at Maloney Field, after the Cardinal's Galen Thompson scored the winning goal in the 97th minute. The Pac-10 champion Golden Bears, whose record is now 12-5-1 (7-3-0 Pac-10), now await the NCAA Championship selection show, to be broadcast on ESPNews between 1-2 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 6. Stanford has a 6-7-5 record (4-3-3).

Junior forward Javier Ayala-Hil gave Cal a 1-0 lead in the 10th minute, after he scored off an assist from junior defender Luke Sassano.

Evan Morgan scored in the 30th minute to tie the game at 1-1.

Cal and Stanford split the season series 1-1, which gives the two schools a tie in men's soccer as part of the Lexus Gauntlet.
