Soccer Records 2-1 Victory at Washington State
Nov. 3, 2006
PULLMAN, Wash. - Despite playing most of the match in wet conditions due a steady rain, the Arizona State University soccer team scored two second-half goals to lift it to a 2-1 defeat of host Washington State Friday afternoon in Pullman, Wash. The Sun Devils improved to 8-8-2 overall and 3-5-0 in the Pac-10 with the win while the Cougars fell to 8-7-4 overall and 3-3-2 in the conference.
After neither team found the back of the net in the first 45 minutes of play, the Sun Devils broke the scoreless tie as Dante Perea hammered home her third goal of the season with 61:14 showing on the clock for a 1-0 ASU lead. Lara Kezer was credited with the assist as Perea shot the ball to the back post from eight yards out.
With less than five minutes remaining, the Sun Devils continued their attack and were awarded with a penalty kick at 85:39 which Kyleyn Felts put into the back of the net for a 2-0 lead. The PK conversion is the second for Felts this season and would prove to be the game-winning strike for the second time this year as well.
The Cougars halted ASU's bid for its eighth shut out of the season as Kiersten Dallstream connected on a goal at 87:07 to bring the final score to 2-1. ASU's Kim Bingham recorded five saves in the match while her counterpart, Brynn Bemis, halted three attempts.
The Sun Devils now head to Seattle on Sunday for a noon match against Washington in the final regular season contest for both teams.
