Volleyball Falls At #5 UCLA

LOS ANGELES, Calif. - The Arizona State volleyball team surprised the fifth ranked UCLA Bruins by taking the first game 30-27 Friday night at Pauley Pavilion. However, the Bruins stormed back to take the next three games to win the match 3-1. The loss drops the Devils to 11-12 on the year, 3-9 in the Pac-10.
ASU came out hot in the match's opening game, turning in a .421 hitting percentage on their way to the 30-27 win. But UCLA forced the Devils into 12 errors in game two, as the Bruins evened it up with a 30-15 win. The Bruins stayed torrid in game three, hitting .340 as they never trailed on their way to a 30-23 win. The number five team in the nation then closed out Arizona State 30-26 in game four to win the match.
ASU was led by the 18 kills of Nicole Morton while hitting at an incredible .410 percentage. Nina Reeves added a double-double with her 12 kills and ten digs. Sydney Donahue once again led the way on the defensive side, digging 22 balls for ASU. Staci Smith contributed with six blocks ands eight kills in the loss.
The Sun Devils will stay in Los Angeles, facing #6 USC Saturday night at the new Galen Center. The match begins at 8 pm.
