ASU Women's Basketball Hosts Final Exhibition Game on Monday night
Nov. 5, 2006
The No. 12 Arizona State women's basketball team will host its second and final exhibition game on Monday night when it faces Vanguard University at 6:30 p.m. at Wells Fargo Arena. Admission is free to the public.
The Sun Devils opened exhibition play with a 72-46 win over Love and Basketball on Thursday night at Wells Fargo Arena. In that game ASU was led by the combination of senior F Emily Westerberg (15 points) and junior G Reagan Pariseau (10 points), who combined for 25 points.
Three new faces - freshmen Gabby Fage, Kayli Murphy and Dymond Simon - made their Sun Devil debuts vs. Love and Basketball. Murphy and Simon both displayed flashes of brilliance that helped the duo lead Phoenix St. Mary's to a pair of state championships during their high school career. Murphy led ASU in rebounds (9) while also adding four points. Simon scored eight points and handed out three assists in only 21 minutes of action.
Vanguard University, which tied for the top spot in the NAIA Division I Women's Basketball Preseason Poll, is also playing its second exhibition after falling to No. 20 New Mexico, 82-43, on Tuesday night. The Lions were led by junior Jessica Richter (16 points, eight rebounds) and former Ironwood High School standout senior Kelly Schmidt (15 points, eight rebounds).
Following Monday night's exhibition, the Sun Devils will prepare for regular season play. This weekend (Nov. 10, 12, 13) ASU will host the Veterans Day Classic at Wells Fargo Arena. ASU will open the weekend by taking on Nebraska at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. Two days later (Sun. Nov. 12, noon) the Sun Devils will host No. 20 New Mexico. ASU will then close out the three-day event when it faces Florida Atlantic on Mon., Nov. 13 at 6 p.m.
Tickets are now on sale for all of ASU's home games including its Nov. 19 tilt against the University of Tennessee and the Hoops for Health Classic in which the Sun Devils will face Texas Tech on Dec. 18 in the second ever outdoor game at Chase Field in Phoenix.
