COLUMBUS, OHIO - The doubles team of senior Zsuzsanna Fodor and junior Susie Babos rebounded after its first-round loss to win the consolation doubles tournament in the ITA Indoor Championships, Sunday at the Racquet Club of Columbus, in Columbus, Ohio.
The pair, who came in as the No. 2 seed of the tournament, beat No. 1 seed Catrina Thompson and Christian Thompson of Notre Dame, 8-6. After the first-round defeat, Babos and Fodor won their next three matches to take the tournament title.
Sunday's doubles match was the first of two matches for Fodor. Unfortunately for her, she lost her second match of the day in the finals of the singles consolation tournament. Fodor was defeated by Stanford's Celia Durkin in a three-set match that ended, 6-2, 6-7(1), 7-5. Following her first-round defeat, Fodor won her next three matches in the consolation bracket to advance to the finals.
This concludes the fall campaign for the California women's tennis team. The Golden Bears return to the courts in January, when they host the Cal Winter Invitational at the Hellman Tennis Center from Jan. 12-14.
