Durkin Defeats Cal's Fodor In Consolation Title Match

STANFORD, Calif.- Junior Celia Durkin outlasted No. 5 Zsuzsanna Fodor of California 6-2, 6-7 (1), 7-5 in the consolation singles title match at the ITA National Indoor Championships on Sunday in Columbus, Ohio.

Durkin, ranked No. 20 nationally, was upset in the first round of the tournament on Thursday afternoon and dropped to the consolation bracket.

After defeating Wisconsin's Caitlin Burke 6-4, 4-6, 7-6 (6) in her first consolation match, she registered back-to-back victories over Pac-10 opponents. Durkin downed UCLA's Yasmin Schnack 7-6 (5), 6-1 and USC's Sarah Fansler 6-4, 7-6 (5) to reach Sunday's final against Fodor.

Stanford will close out its fall season on Nov. 21, when it faces Hawai'i in Honolulu.
