Women's Basketball Wins Exhibition Game

The UCLA women's basketball team defeated Team Concept, a group of former collegiate players, by a score of 79-73 in the Bruins' final exhibition game prior to the regular season-opener on Sunday, Nov. 12 versus UC Santa Barbara. Senior guard Noelle Quinn, who totaled a double-double with 18 points and 10 boards, and junior forward Lindsey Pluimer, who had 17 points, led the way for UCLA.
The Bruins trailed 34-27 at the end of the first half and were down 38-31 early in the second half when a Pluimer three-point shot pulled them within four at 40-36 with 17:07 to play. Another Pluimer basket with 14:19 to play gave UCLA its first lead of the second half at 45-44. For the next five minutes neither team led by more than three points in a contest which featured 12 lead changes and nine ties. UCLA capped off a 12-4 run which helped them to pull away on a pair of Pluimer free throws and another basket which pushed UCLA out to a 72-60 lead with 4:58 to play in the contest.
UCLA shot 55% in the second half of the contest and won the battle of the boards 43-35. Sophomore center Chinyere Ibekwe and senior forward Amanda Livingston both scored in double digits for UCLA. Ibekwe had 12 points and six boards, while Livingston added 11 points and two steals. Freshman Moniquee Alexander came off the bench to register seven points.
UCLA will host UC Santa Barbara in Pauley Pavilion on Nov. 12 at 2 p.m. in the 2006-07 season-opener. The Bruins will then travel to play at Tennessee on Nov. 16.
