Exhibition Action Starts Tonight For No. 22 Women of Troy
Nov. 6, 2006
LOS ANGELES, CALIF. - The No. 22-ranked USC women's basketball team gets their 2006-07 season underway today with an exhibition game against the Australian Institute of Sport. The game will be the first competition for the Women of Troy in the brand-new Galen Center, and offers up a chance for the Trojans to put their talented 2006 roster to the test.
Head coach Mark Trakh is entering his third season at Troy, leading 11 carry-overs from last season's roster including seven seniors. He's also added four freshman and two walk-ons to the roster as the Women of Troy set up to make another run through the competitive Pac-10 and into the NCAA Tournament. USC finished 19-12 overall last season and reached the NCAA Second Round for the second straight year. This season, USC will play host for the first and second rounds of NCAA action in 2007.
The Australian Institute of Sport is in the United States playing various collegiate teams around the country. The squad recently faced Portland State on Nov. 2, falling 68-65 to the Vikings.
The Trojans' official home opener at the brand-new Galen Center is a 7 p.m. showdown with longtime rival Long Beach State on Nov. 10, when USC also will retire the jerseys of Trojan greats Cheryl Miller and Lisa Leslie in a halftime ceremony.
