WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - OREGON senior forward Nicole Garbin has been named the Pac-10 Women's Soccer Player of the Week for Oct. 31-Nov. 6, Commissioner Tom Hansen announced today.

Garbin had a huge weekend in her final regular-season home matches, scoring both game-winning goals in Oregon's victories over No. 3 UCLA and USC. Both wins were landmarks for the Oregon program, and secured a second-place Conference finish while making an emphatic statement in favor of Oregon making its first NCAA Tournament.

On Friday, Garbin settled a double overtime thriller with the Bruins, scoring from seven yards out off a throw-in by teammate Allison Newton in the 108th minute for a 2-1 Ducks win that snapped UCLA's 10-match win streak. It was Oregon's first ever win over a top-five team and just the third against a ranked team. Sunday, Oregon completed its first sweep of the Los Angeles schools, as Garbin scored two more goals in a 3-1 win over the Trojans. The win was Oregon's first against USC.

With her three goals over the weekend, Garbin broke her own single-season records for goals (12), game-winning goals (9), points (25) and shots (84). She scored the game-winning goal in each of Oregon's six Pac-10 victories in 2006. Last but not least, Garbin took sole possesssion of Oregon's career goals record with 34, passing Chalise Baysa (1998-2000).

Oregon, which was picked to finish last in the Conference in the preseason coaches poll, set school records for wins and Conference wins this year, finishing 12-6-2 and 6-1-2 in the Pac-10. The second-place Pac-10 finish is far and away Oregon's strongest showing, having never finished higher than seventh prior to this season.

Over the past five weeks, Garbin has taken home three Player of the Week honors, the first player ever to win three in one season. With the addition of her win as a sophomore in 2003, Garbin is now the first player in Pac-10 history to win four Player of the Week honors for a career. Oregon has received seven awards all-time, four this season.
