Stanford Men Take Top Honors At Corde Valle Classic

San Martin, Calif. - The Stanford men's golf team dominated the field at the 2006 Corde Valle Classic in San Martin, Calif., to win their third tournament of the season with a final three-round score of 822 (-42). The Cardinal shot rounds of 281, 273 and 268 to post a 14 shot victory. USC finished second (836), followed by Arizona (841), Coastal Carolina (847) and Lamar University (849).

Stanford's final round score of 268 (-20) broke the school record for the team low round (previous best was 273 (-15) which the Cardial tied yesterday). The Cardinal's three-round total of 822 (-42) also breaks the school record for low team tournament score (previous best was 831 (-31) in 2005).

Individually, Stanford led the impressive field as well. Senior Zack Miller (72-63-67) and junior Rob Grube (69-68-65) tied for top medalist honors with a 14-under par 202.

Miller's 63 yesterday, set a course record and is the third lowest individual round in school history. Today Miller posted six birdies on the afternoon, three on the front nine and three on the back nine.

Grube recorded his low round of the tournament today with a 65 (eight birdies).

Freshman Joseph Bramlett finished 11th overall after carding a six-under 210 for the tourney (71-71-67). Bramlett's five-under 67 today included four birdies and one eagle.

Teammate Matt Savage tied for 12th on the individual leaderboard with a five-under par 211 (68-74-69). Savage recorded birdies today on the fifth, eighth and 13th holes.

Rounding out the Cardinal competitors was freshman Jordan Cox who tied for 38th overall (72-71-74) with a one-over par 217.

Stanford wraps up their fall schedule with three team victories in five events.

The Cardinal will be back in action in February when the take part in the Puerto Rico Classic (hosted by Purdue).
