What's Happening This Week: The Washington State women's rowing team heads west to Seattle for the Head of the Lake Regatta Sunday, Nov. 12...the 4,600 meter race takes place on the Montlake Cut...racing starts at 8 a.m...varsity eight will compete in the fifth race...for results and more information visit www.lakewashingtonrowing.com.

The 2005 Head of the Lake: The Cougar varsity eight ended last year's successful fall season with a first place finish at the Head of the Lake...the third varsity eight also finished first and the second varsity eight finished second...WSU's varsity four finished fourth in a field of 13.

Familiar Foes: WSU women will race against five teams that they regularly face...four entries are Pacific-10 teams: Washington, UCLA, Stanford, and Oregon State...Gonzaga is also competing in the Head of the Lake, who WSU has faced twice this season.

Last Competition: WSU's competition at the Head of the Snake, Oct. 28 against the Gonzaga Bulldogs was shortened because of weather conditions...the course was shortened from 6000 m to less than 2000 m...Cougar varsity eight boat and second varsity eight boat finished first and second respectively.

Head of the Charles Recap: Washington State women's varsity eight crew finished 10th at the 42nd Annual Head of the Charles Regatta Sunday...second consecutive year the Cougars finished 10th...rowed time of 16 minutes, 38.652 seconds, just over a minute behind the first place U.S. Rowing boat...Cougars crossed the finish line eighth among collegiate boats rowing in the event...crews finishing ahead of them included defending varsity eight national champion Princeton, as well as four other teams that competed at the 2006 NCAA Championships: Washington, Yale, Stanford, and Tennessee.

Directions to Head of the Lake:

From 520 Westbound (toward Seattle) exit Montlake Boulevard.
Turn Right (north). Follow Montlake past the stadium, past Hec Ed Pavillion.
Just past cement overpass to Hec Ed, take second drive to right toward Parking Lot and Boathouse
From I-5, take Eastbound 520, exit Montlake Blvd. Turn left at stop light
Follow Montlake past the stadium, past Hec Ed Pavillion.
Just past cement overpass to Hec Ed, take second drive to right toward Parking Lot and Boathouse
It's the third right from overpass, the first two rights are a parking area for the ticket office.
