Cougar Women's Basketball Signs Calderwood for Next Season

Nov. 8, 2006

PULLMAN, Wash. - Katie Calderwood, a 6-0, guard from Colorado, has signed a National Letter of Intent to play for the Washington State women's basketball team starting with the 2007-08 season, WSU Head Coach Sherri Murrell announced Wednesday.

'Katie is a good, tall guard that we needed especially with Adriane leaving,' Murrell said. She's a good fit and an outside shooter. I just really like what she brings to the table and to help us make that spot Adriane is leaving a more successful fill.'

Calderwood plays high school basketball and volleyball for the Eagles at Broomfield High in Broomfield, Colo. She led the team in scoring her sophomore year averaging 14 points per game, as the Eagles made a final four run at the 2005 state tournament. For her efforts during her sophomore year, Calderwood was awarded honorable mention all-state and was selected first team all-conference.

She received more accolades her junior year as Calderwood was named the Daily Camera Player of the Year and participated in the Colorado All-Star Game along with being selected first team all-state. Her court success led Broomfield High to its best record in school history, 24-2.

Calderwood comes from a line of sport athletes as her dad, Bill, played football at Navy, and her uncle, Jim, played his football days at Utah State. She is the student body Treasurer and is nominated for the Wendy's Heisman Award and as a McDonald's All-American. She plans to pursue a degree in international business at WSU.
