No. 22 USC Opens Season with Win Against Long Beach State
Nov. 11, 2006
LOS ANGELES (AP) - Eshaya Murphy scored 13 of her game-high 21 points in the second half to help No. 22 USC open the season and its new Galen Center with an 85-50 victory over Long Beach State on Friday night.
At halftime, the school retired the uniform numbers of former greats Cheryl Miller (for the second time) and Lisa Leslie.
Long Beach State sophomore Carina Figueroa scored the first points in the new building and finished with 12 points, two fewer than junior Tyresha Calhoun.
It took the Women of Troy most of the first half to put away the 49ers, who beat them last season but who are much younger this season with 14 underclassmen.
