Huskies Fall in Semifinals at Duck Classic

EUGENE, Ore. - In day two action of the Duck Classic, No. 2 seeded Tara Simpson fell in the semifinals of the flight one singles bracket, while the Huskles' doubles team of Melinda Wong and Allison Rainey lost in the semifinals of the doubles bracket.
Simpson, a junior from Vancouver, B.C., dropped a three-set battle against Boise State's Bianca Jochimsen 6-1, 5-7, 6-4 in the semifinals. Simpson had earlier beaten Boise State's Tiffany Coll 6-1, 2-6, 7-5 in the semifinals to advance.
Sophomore Victoria Brymer (Apple Valley, Calif.) lost a three-set battle 4-6, 6-4, 7-5 to Boise State's Tatiana Ganzha in the semifinals, the only other Husky alive in day two singles action.
The Huskies doubles team of Melinda Wong (West Seattle, Wash.) and Allison Rainey (Mercer Island, Wash.) won their quarterfinals match over the Duck duo of Anna Powaska and Simone Templeton 8-3, but lost in the semifinals to Boise State's Jana Mackova and Laura Baum 8-2.
The Duck Classic is the final fall tune up for the Huskies before they open up their spring season on Jan. 12 at the Hawaii Invitational.
