EUGENE, Ore. (AP) - Freshman Tajuan Porter made six 3-pointers en route to a 28-point performance as Oregon beat Cal-State Northridge, 84-73, in the Basketball Travelers Classic at McArthur Court Saturday.
Porter, who scored 27 in the Ducks' (2-0) season-opener against Lehigh on Friday, was 9-for-19 from the field overall, and 6-for-11 from the 3-point line. Oregon's single-game scoring record for a freshman is 31.
Maarty Leunen recorded 18 points and 17 rebounds for Oregon, while Bryce Taylor added 19 points.
Thomas Shewmake scored 15 to lead the Matadors (1-1).
Porter, a 5-foot-7 guard, had five 3-pointers and 21 points total in the first half as the Ducks led 43-29 at the break. He now has 11 3-pointers this season and has shot 52-percent from the 3-point line.
The Matadors started slow and could never get going. They made only one of their first 13 shots from the field and had nine turnovers in the first 11 minutes of the game.
The Ducks were able to take a 17-6 lead by the 9:31 mark and never held less than a five-point lead the rest of the way.
Taylor opened the second half for Oregon by scoring six straight to give the Ducks a 49-31 advantage, and a putback by Leunen gave Oregon its largest advantage of the game, 72-51, with 7:42 left to play.
