WALNUT CREEK, Calif.--Wide receiver Richard Sherman of Stanford, cornerback Antoine Cason of Arizona and kicker Jesse Ainsworth of Arizona State have been named U.S. Bank Pac-10 Football Players of the Week.

Sherman, a freshman from Compton, Calif., played a major role in Stanford's 20-3 upset win at Washington that got the Cardinal its initial win of the season. Sherman had six receptions for 177 yards, an average of 29.5 yards per catch. Included was a 74-yard touchdown reception that was the only offensive touchdown scored in the game.

Cason, a junior from Long Beach, Calif., earned defensive player of the week honors for the second consecutive week after making the key defensive play in Arizona's 24-20 upset victory against then No. 8-ranked California. Cason scored what proved to be the game-winning touchdown on a 39-yard fourth-quarter interception return for a score. In addition, he had four solo tackles as the Arizona defense limited California to 14 first downs, just 3-of-13 on third-down conversion attempts, 106 yards rushing and picked off three passes, including Cason's game-winner returned for a touchdown.

Ainsworth, a senior from Thousand Oaks, Calif., had a big game in Arizona State's 47-14 win against Washington State. Ainsworth was perfect on four-of-four field goal attempts, connecting from 34, 46, 47 and 32 yards. He also hit all five of his extra points to extend his Pac-10 record of consecutive PATs made to 132. His 17 points scored is the highest single-game total for a kicker in the Pac-10 this year. Ainsworth also recorded six touchbacks on his eight kickoffs.

Others nominated for offensive player of the week honors quarterback Rudy Carpenter of Arizona State, tailback Chauncey Washington of USC and receiver Syndric Steptoe of Arizona. Also nominated on defense were linemen Lawrence Jackson of USC and Brigham Harwell of UCLA, safety Zach Catanese of Arizona State and linebacker Michael Okwo of Stanford. Return man DeSean Jackson of California and kickers Justin Medlock of UCLA and Nick Folk of Arizona were nominated for special teams play.
