Nov. 13, 2006
Foster City, CA - Stanford's Novice Men raced for the first time this weekend. Their first race for the Cardinal resulted in 3 gold medals as Stanford was victorious in every event they entered. Stanford won gold medals in the Freshman Eight, Freshman Four and Open Four events. They also won the silver in the Freshman Four.
The racing took place at the Foster City Lagoon where the team enjoyed excellent race conditions. Many of the Stanford rowers powered their way down the 5000 meter course twice during the day as they raced in both the Freshman Eight and the fours.
Men's Assistant Coach Pete Giese was happy with the day. 'It was great to see these young men be so successful in their first race for Stanford. This was a great event for us to attend. It should be noted that Coach Monica Hilcu's leadership was vital to the success of the regatta as a whole.'
This race marks the end to a successful fall racing season for the Stanford Men's Rowing team. The novice team adds their gold medal haul to the collection of wins by the Varsity team at the Petaluma Wine Country Classic and the Head of the Charles.
