USC Announces Addition Of Four New Women of Troy
Nov. 13, 2006
LOS ANGELES, CALIF. - The USC women's tennis team has signed four new players to letters of intent, head coach Richard Gallien announced today. USC's newest Women of Troy are Cristala Andrews, Leyla Entekhabi, Lyndsay Kinstler and Maria Sanchez, and the foursome are set to make an immediate impact when they arrive at Troy next year.
'Overall it's the most athletic class we've had,' Gallien said. 'All of them are good students, have good families and have a great track record of winning. We're really excited to have them.'
Of the four players, Maria Sanchez boasts possibly the most diverse athletic resume, having competed as the starting point guard on the Davis High School basketball team. The Modesto, Calif., native also won the winter nationals, and was a semifinalist over the summer in the National Clay Court and National Hard Court tournaments.
'Maria is without question one of the top recruits in the country,' Gallien said. 'She's a marvelous recruit and will make a big impact in singles and doubles without a doubt.'
Sanchez will have at least one familiar face by her side, as she is joined in USC's recruiting class by Lyndsay Kinstler, who beat Sanchez to win the 16-under National Championship. Kinstler hails from Emerald Bay, Calif. and attends Laguna Beach High School
'Lyndsay is very talented and extremely skilled,' Gallien said. 'She will also be an excellent singles and doubles player here.'
Another Southern California talent coming to USC is Agoura product Leyla Entekhabi, who comes to the Trojans from Agoura High School.
'Leyla has been ranked as high as No. 11 in the nation,' Gallien said. 'She's a really good athlete. She's very fast, a good competitor and has a great feel for the game.'
Gallien has one player coming in from out of state in Las Vegas native Cristala Andrews. A home-schooled student-athlete, Andrews is yet another talented and athletic player that Gallien is eager to add to the roster for 2007.
'Cristala is also one of the top 10 recruits in the country,' Gallien said. 'Her top attribute is that she's one of the best competitors I've seen. She's super steady, a ferocious competitor, and a complete athlete.'
The four players are set to join the Women of Troy in fall 2007.
