Nov. 14, 2006

Stanford, Calif. - Stanford defender Rachel Buehler has been named a semifinalist for the Missouri Athletic Club Hermann Trophy, as announced by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America today. Considered to be college soccer's version of the Heisman Trophy, the winner of the award is selected by NCAA Division I coaches from around the nation.

Buehler, a redshirt junior, is the anchor of the Stanford defense, which is currently ranked 12th nationally in shutout percentage and 14th nationally in goals-against average. Led by Buehler, the Cardinal has posted 14 shutouts this season, and has advanced to its first NCAA Third Round since 2002. This summer, Buehler trained with the U.S. Senior National Team before joining the U.S. Under-21 Women's National Team for the 2006 Nordic Cup in Norway.

Three men's and three women's finalists will be announced on Monday, Nov. 27. The winners will be announced at a banquet in St. Louis, Mo., hosted by the Missouri Athletic Club on Saturday, Dec. 2, where they will be presented with the prestigious crystal soccer ball which has come to symbolize the highest individual achievement in intercollegiate soccer.
