UCLA Women's Volleyball Signs Three High School Seniors
Nov. 15, 2006
LOS ANGELES - High school seniors Dicey McGraw, Katie Mills and Stephanie Nucci have signed National Letters of Intent to attend UCLA, head women's volleyball coach Andy Banachowski announced today. The trio will see their first action for UCLA women's volleyball in the fall of 2007.
McGraw, a 5-10 outside hitter from Laguna Niguel, Calif., is a senior for the Santa Margarita High School team that remains alive in the CIF state championship playoffs. 'Dicey is an excellent jumper,' said Banachowski, 'and will be an outstanding attacker in the quick offense that we run.'
Mills is a 6-3 middle blocker from Aurora, Colo., where she plays for Grandview High School. 'Katie is a big, mobile, athletic player,' said Banachowski. 'She is a good blocker and attacker in the middle.' As a member of the Front Range Volleyball Club, Mills was a member of the 2006 USA Volleyball Girls 16 National Open All-Tournament Team. Front Range finished fifth at the 2006 18 Open USAVB tournament.
Nucci, a 6-1 setter from Gilbert, Ariz., has played her club volleyball with Sports Performance, a program based out of Chicago that has turned out numerous successful setters including current UCLA sophomore Nellie Spicer. 'Stephanie has a great presence at the net and a very good touch on the ball,' said Banachowski. Nucci's Sports Performance team won the 2006 Great Lakes Region in the 18 Elite category and finished third in the Gold Division USAVB tournament.
'We have brought in another solid class of student-athletes,' said Banachowski. 'They will fill our needs created by our departing senior class. This group will train and develop into outstanding volleyball players and represent UCLA well as we continue to compete for championships.
The 2006 UCLA women's volleyball team returns to action this Friday night, November 17, with a 7 pm Lexus Gauntlet match against USC. First serve is scheduled for 7 pm in Pauley Pavilion.
