Volleyball Inks Two Recruits To NLIs
Nov. 16, 2006
TEMPE, Ariz. - Arizona State University head volleyball coach has announced the signings of middle blocker Sara Todorovich and outside hitter Sarah Reaves to National Letters of Intent.
Todorovich is currently a senior at Walla Walla High School in Walla Walla, Washington. She led the Blue Devils to three straight postseason berths, including a trip to the regionals this past season. She was named her team's MVP as well as earning First Team All-Conference honors following the 2006 season.
'Because we lose Tierra Burnley to graduation this season as well as Staci Smith and Colette Meek next season, it was important to find a quality player to fill those roles,' said head coach Brad Saindon. 'Sara fits that role perfectly. She is 6-5, athletic, she moves well and she has a great jump serve. We think she could make an immediate impact next season.'
Reaves is in her senior year at Ironwood High School in Glendale, where she helped lead the Eagles to the State Championship game in October. The Eagles made the postseason all four years she played, including winning three straight regional titles. Reaves was twice named the Region Player of the Year and earned First Team All-Region honors three straight seasons. She was a Second Team All-State selection in 2005.
'We felt that Sarah Reaves was the best volleyball player in the state of Arizona,' said Saindon. 'She plays a position where we have a need, as we will lose Nicole Morton and Nina Reeves to graduation this season. Sarah is a tremendous athlete who is very physical. She is going to be a great Pac-10 volleyball player.'
Arizona State will enter 2007 with an experienced group, as the Sun Devils will return 12 letterwinners from this year's squad.
'We've turned a corner this year and are heading in a positive direction,' added Saindon. 'These two student-athletes that we signed will make us better and help us continue down that path.'
