Two UCLA Golfers to Play in All-America Tournament
Nov. 18, 2006
Flores earned 2nd Team GCAA All-America honors last season as a freshman when he led the Bruins with a scoring average of 71.2, 10 Top 10 finishes and 10 rounds below 70. He was selected to the All-Pacific-10 Conference First Team and was named the Pac-10's Newcomer of the Year.
Im became UCLA's sixth Pac-10 champion last season while leading the Bruins to their second conference championship in four years. A 2006 First-Team All-Pac-10 selection, he also earned GCAA All-Pacific Region honors and honorable mention All-America honors. In addition, he was named the Pac-10 Golfer of the Month for April, 2005 after winning the Southern Highlands Collegiate and placing second at the Western Intercollegiate.
'This is a great way for Erik and Daniel to finish up the fall season,' said Head Coach O.D. Vincent. 'They are both looking forward to this event, and they both know a good finish will go a long way in jump-starting their 2007 seasons.'
Im and Flores join a list of eight other former Bruins who have played in this event, including Corey Pavin (1979, '81), Duffy Waldorf (1984) and John Merrick (2002).
A field of 28 All-Americans, including first team All-Americans Rhys Davies (East Tennessee State), Dustin Johnson (Coastal Carolina) and Pablo Martin (Oklahoma State), will be competing for medalist honors. The field also features three members of the 2006 U.S. Palmer Cup team in Chris Kirk (Georgia), Kevin Larsen (Georgia Tech) and Luke List (Vanderbilt).
'This is truly a strong and competitive field,' said Steve Kauitzsch, tournament chairman. 'Six of the top seven finishers from last year are in the field and we have a strong presence of young golfers who could make for an interesting finish.'
