Sal Zizzo Named UCLA/Muscle Milk Student-Athlete of the Week
Nov. 20, 2006
Senior midfielder Sal Zizzo (San Diego, Calif./Patrick Henry HS) of the UCLA men's soccer team was selected as the UCLA/Muscle Milk Student-Athlete of the Week (Nov. 13-19).
Zizzo scored three goals and had an assist in two NCAA Tournament wins that put the Bruins into the NCAA quarterfinals for the 18th time in school history. In the 3-0 second round win over Harvard, Zizzo scored just 1:55 into the game to put the Bruins ahead early. He added a second goal in the 40th minute, and the Bruins never looked back. In the 3-0 third round win over Clemson, Zizzo assisted on David Estrada's game-winning goal in the 11th minute and scored a goal of his own in the 25th minute as the Bruins took another 2-0 first-half lead. Although not credited with an assist, Zizzo also played a role in the third goal with 41 seconds remaining in the game. He made a long run down the right side and passed to Estrada in the middle of the box. Estrada juked two defenders three times before netting his second goal of the game. Zizzo now ranks second on the team in scoring with 19 points on five goals and nine assists.
This is Zizzo's first UCLA/Muscle Milk Student-Athlete of the Week honor of the season and of his career.
