Johnson and Weishaar Named to Pac-10 All-Academic Teams

PULLMAN, Wash. -- Washington State's Brittany Johnson and Stephanie Weishaar have been named to the 2006 Pacific-10 Conference Women's Volleyball All-Academic teams, announced Tuesday by Commissioner Tom Hansen.

Johnson, a sophomore outside hitter from Phoenix, Ariz., was named to the seven-member second team. She has a 3.71 grade point average and is majoring in management information systems. Earlier this month she was selected to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District VIII third team for University Division Women's Volleyball. Johnson is the Cougars' leading hitter with a 3.86 kills per game average which is 10th-best in the Pacific-10 Conference. Johnson has double-figure kills in 25 of WSU's 30 matches this year. She was named MVP of 2006 Baden Cougar Challenge tournament and also selected to Texas-Arlington all-tournament team. Johnson was a Pac-10 2005 All-Freshman team honorable mention selection.

Weishaar, a sophomore defensive specialist from Camas, Wash., was named the honorable mention team. She has a 3.18 GPA and is majoring in sport management. Weishaar earned scholarship after walking-on the team as a freshman. She is averaging 2.83 digs per game, third-highest on the Cougars' squad. She has tallied double-figure digs in 14 matches this season and is the team leader in service aces with 27.

To be eligible for selection to the academic team, a student-athlete must have a minimum 3.0 overall grade point average and be either a starter or a significant contributor and have matriculated at the school for one complete year.
